Come closer to Me

Monday 12 June 2023

On the beach road with Luke at 5:30, and the Lord begins to whisper:

Do you remember what it feels like when you are on a boat, and you sense a change? The motion, the vibration, some sound, the air on your face? The tide, winds, currents, your direction … shifted … and you knew that it had shifted. You could feel it in your hands on the tiller. Remember and encounter that feeling, child.

There is silence as we finish our walk, and I put Luke back in the front seat, close the door. I am about to get it the driver’s side, my hand was on the door handle when he called me:

            Come closer.

There is a sensation all over my body. Again:

            Come close to me.

Now I feel him all over me, inside and outside. My steps felt not my own as I walked over the soft sand toward the water.

            Closer.

He called me out to the water’s edge, to the very place of meeting where the incoming tide is pouring itself upon the sand, where the waves churn together the air and water.

Closer. Put your hands in, touch me.

I kneel down, put both hands in the water, in the air, in the sand mixed together.

Closer. Be in me as I am in you.

All time and sound seem to stop, until he sends the next wave to nearly slap my face and move my feet. There is loving delight in his voice.

Do you hear me?      “Yes, Lord.”

The shift you talk about, this command to Come to Me – this is a signal. You are receiving and knowing: It is I.

When I call you like this, above any other noise or chaos, Come, Come, as close as you can., for I am calling you and I will call all children into me, into my safe embrace. This is your place of protection. Do you feel it?

“I do. Nothing touches me here with you.”

Come when you hear me whisper. Come closer that you have ever imagined. Come beyond what you can touch or taste, for this is the place of … with Me.

Psalm 91:1 tells us: “Those who dwell in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.”
