Recall of three dreams overnight:
- A number of us were moving cattle; it was hot and dusty. We were on horseback herding them along, but an enemy had set sticky netting alongside a creek bed, where the cattle would go for water. They became entangled and we had to dismount to free them. The netting was like thin, white, very sticky tape and as the cattle got tangled in it, the netting actively tried to wrap itself among their legs, rendering them immobile. One by one, we were able to cut them free. Each time we cut a strand of the sticky netting, the rest of it became weak and useless.
- I found myself in a garden area with high stone walls, and open, arched entrances leading to other structures I could not really see. It was cool and dark, almost too dark to see, but there were beautiful trees and cultivated plants all around. I sensed motion just ahead of me, in some branches just above eye level. It was a nest of three baby owls. A parent owl had just delivered some carrion for the young, but only enough for two. I stepped much closer, and the smallest owl which hadn’t been fed, spoke to me in a tiny voice: “Oh good, you’re here! Lean over, I’m going with you.”
I simply ducked my head slightly, and the little owl, not much more than a ball of fluff, dropped off its perch onto the back of my neck. I was wearing some sort of tunic with a cowl pulled back. The baby owl rolled itself down my neck and into the folds of my pulled-back hood. I could feel its warmth and tiny heartbeat as we left the garden. - There was a city setting, with university buildings along a busy street. On the other side of the street were taller offices and businesses. I was walking out of one of the offices, getting ready to make my way across the university campus, because that was a shortcut to the transit system, and on to some airport. As I crossed the street, I ran into Julius Erving, and he and I fell into step together as we walked along. We were talking about some business or technical things when we stopped at an open-air stand to get iced coffee. There was chatter coming from inside a nearby restaurant and we heard a name mentioned.
That name triggered a common recognition in us both and we began to talk about someone else we both knew, someone who was not well. “I can go see him,” I said, “because he’s closer to where I’m living.” Julius replied with a huge smile, his eyes were full of light, “Man, you tell him I love him, and to get up and get going again! Tell him we’re going to do something soon and I want to see him!”
We slapped hands and set off in different directions; he was heading downtown, and I began to walk quickly between the campus buildings.
