Dream recall:
I was with a group of people boarding an airplane. The mood was bright, happy and there was scrambling for seats and laughing as we took off. The flight was short but when we landed in a large city everything changed.
It was dark, misty – almost smoky – when we stepped off the plane. As I stood for a moment gathering my bearings, to figure out where I was supposed to go, a feeling of dark evil came over me, and I knew this was not a good place.
There was not a typical airport terminal here, but just a series of dark, almost run-down low buildings. There were people all around me, but something seemed off. No one was looking up, but they were head-down, looking numbly at their phones, and shuffling along.
I started to walk towards what I could tell was an exit, away from the place we had just landed. I was in a throng of people moving along, and suddenly I was bumped from behind. I turned to see who or what it was, and saw someone running away, glancing back at me. I knew I had just been robbed, my pockets picked.
Sure enough, as I felt my pockets, my wallet was gone, all my money, cards, drivers license, everything. I reached to my right rear pocket to get my phone out and call the police. The phone was still there, but something wasn’t right with it. In the dim yellowish light I stared at it and with a start realized that it wasn’t my phone but something else that the thief had substituted. And it didn’t work at all.
I stood still, the crowds simply passing me by like I was a rock in a stream. I looked left and right but there were no police or even call boxes anywhere. Ahead of me was an exit checkpoint. People were passing through by holding up their phones as their identity. A chill ran through me because I realized that I had nothing on me at all that showed who I was. Again, I looked for the police or any official but there was no one.
As I stood still, wondering what to do and how to get out, I began to look much more carefully at all the people around me. A great sadness swept through me as I realized that they were all trapped and held captive, and their phones were their only survival. All their ‘identity,’ all their ‘money,’ all their sense of who they were was in those devices. No one looked up or looked at anyone else, they simply stared at their little screens, which were telling them where to go and what to do next.
In the shadows, doorways and alleys all around me were the thieves, pickpockets and underground dealers, who were the darkest creatures in this dark world. Somewhere among them was someone who now would sell my own ‘identity.’ All our ‘technologic advances’ had been reduced to numb slavery and evil dealings.
I wasn’t afraid, but I was feeling trapped, and at the moment I began to open my mouth to pray, the Lord spoke in my right ear.
You must call this down, child.
There was a shiver of Holy Fear. My mind raced; ‘You’re telling me to call down the entire electronic communication world.’ “Who am I, Lord, that you want me to do this? I don’t know how to start or what to say …”
I know you; you are mine, and you will have all you need to do as I say.
