The Cost of a War

Friday 21 October 2022

The Lord, my Commander, spoke to me this morning:

In the battles of this war there are casualties. You see the dead, wounded and dying. You see the leader, the commander of warriors, take the solitary responsibility of writing the letters of condolence.

I see a soldier in a battle-stained uniform sitting in a small tent, staring at the list of names, staring at the blank papers in front of him. The pain of the loss is overwhelming.

You have been considering what you don’t see or hear. I want you to tell me, child.

“There is no one writing a letter of condolence for anyone killed in this war. No one who died from a bioweapon or died from lethal treatment will ever receive anything from their nation. The dead and wounded are not even being acknowledged as being in the war, Father.”

I want you to write it, child, write the letter of condolence. Write the letter that civilians never get. Write the letter for all the children, all the parents, all those killed in action. Killed in the line of duty, their service to your nation. Their service to me, as they knew or not.

Dear Fellow Americans

It is with the utmost sorrow that I write you, knowing what grief these words must bring. Your loved one was killed today in battle and these words cannot but hope to convey our heartache at your loss. They served this nation with courage and love and gave the ultimate sacrifice for freedom. The Lord Jesus tells us: “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” Know with all your heart that their loss was not in vain.

I pray for your courage to withstand the grief, to know that your beloved is safe with God. We mourn together and we will never forget. I pray for the comfort of our Father to come on you, for strength to continue to stand together. We will never be defeated.

A grateful nation consecrates your beloved with honor and respect.

With love, in the Name of Jesus,

A soldier in the Army of the Lord
